Chevrolet Service 101: Getting Locked Out
Doing something foolish with your car often has serious consequences, like if you drive while texting. Sometimes, however, it just results in being annoyed. This is the case if you lock your keys in your car. Our Chevrolet service center offers some tips if you ever find yourself in this situation:
Call the Auto Club
If you’re a member of an auto club, you might as well use the services you pay for, right? The downside is that it may take somebody a while to come to help you. However, when they do arrive, they will get your door open very fast.
Go Home to Get the Spare
If you do have a spare key at your home, your best course of action may be to go there to get it. Of course, since you can’t take your car, you’ll need another mode of transportation. Hopefully, your phone isn’t also locked inside.
Try the Hanger Trick
If neither of those options will work and you can snag a hanger, you may be able to get it inside to press the unlock button. Fair warning: They make this look a lot easier on TV.
Preventing a Lockout
Fortunately, there are things you can do to avoid a lockout. If you always have your spare key on hand, that will be helpful. You can also use one of those little magnetic boxes that attach to your car to hold a spare key. Just make sure it’s not in an overly obvious spot.
Lastly, you may be able to set up a digital key so you can unlock your car using your smartphone. If your car is too old for this option, you might want to consider upgrading. Visit Carlen Motors near Carthage to check out any of our new models.
